We calculate, design and manufacture various heat exchangers made of tantalum, niobium and titanium. Main applications are heaters and coolers as well as vaporisation and condensation apparatus for chemical processes. They are designed as tube bundles, heating cartridges or tube-in-tube heat exchangers.
Thermal dimensioning is based on the VDI Heat Atlas and the HEDH (Heat Exchanger Design Handbook) as well as on relevant research reports. Mechanical dimensioning according to PED 2014/68/EU and EN 13445.
Due to our unique welding techniques in this segment we are able to manufacture the apparatus with flat tube sheets by default without tube protusions. This design results in advantages regarding safety and during operation and maintenance, as well as in a longer liftime (explained by the lack of cold deformation processes and minimisation of flow turbulences, maximum ductile welding joints) and production cost reduction.
Various process tanks such as reactors, stirring tanks, columns, venturi scrubbers, storage tanks as well as required installations and attachments (grates, liquid distributors, baffle plates, nozzle tubes etc.) manufactured either as solid material version (as common for titanium and sometimes for niobium) or lined or coated (as common for tantalum and sometimes for niobium).
Piping ducts as well as piping components according to relevant standards made of titanium, in special cases made of tantalum or niobium. Lined pipings are also possible.
Impellers, housings and shafts for pumps and fans.
Components for fittings such as butterfly valves and ball valves.
Elektrodes in shape of rods, sheets and pipes as well as various welded combinations.
Components for galvanisation such as baths, anode baskets and hooks.
Tantalum, niobium and titanium are great alternatives to glass and lined components. Their handling is much less critical, fine details such as threads are easy to implement. We can offer reactors, autoclaves, agitators, baffles, sample tubes, feed pipes, protection tubes and laboratory heat exchangers.
In the field of measurement hardware we manufacture antenna, orifice plates, grounding washers, membranes, measuring tubes, protection tubes und and various other components.
In particular tantalum and niobium are rated among the hard-to-machine materials. We apply different techniques which are optimised for these materials which enables us to manage nearly all machining jobs. As our focus is exclusively on these metals and pure titanium we can provide significant experience and expertise in this field. We manufacture standard parts (bolts, nuts, washers, etc.), various drawing parts such as nozzles, nozzle plates, flanges, fittings, etc., small parts for the jewellery production and much more.
Density: 16,65 g/cm3
Melting point: 2996°C
Thermal conductivity: 54 W/mK
The outstanding chemical resistance and the high melting point makes tantalum a very valued metal for the chemical industry and other applications.
Besides unalloyed tantalum (R05200) the alloy Ta2.5W (R05252) and Ta10W (R05255) should be pointed out which show an increased strength due to the addition of tungsten.
R05200 (tantalum unalloyed)
R05252 (tantalum 2.5 tungsten)
R05255 (tantalum 10 tungsten)
Density: 8,57 g/cm3
Melting point: 2468°C
Thermal conductivity: 52 W/mK
Niobium is very similar to tantalum in chemical aspects. Although its corrosion resistance cannot fully keep up with that of tantalum, the lower price and the better availability makes niobium an attractive option for a little lower demands.
Besides commercial unalloyed niobium (R04210) highly pure niobium(R04200) is available.
R04200 (niobium unalloyed type 1)
R04210 (niobium unalloyed type 2)
Density: 4,51 g/cm3
Melting point: 1667°C
Thermal conductivity: 22 W/mK
Main characteristcs of titanium are its low density and its corrosion resistance against diluted acids and bases.
Due to their high resistance in acids titanium alloys with palladium such as grade 7 and grade 11 should be particularly mentioned.
grade 1 (titanium unalloyed)
grade 2 (titanium unalloyed)
grade 7 (grade 2 with 0.12-0.25 palladium)
grade 11 (grade 1 with 0.12-0.25 palladium)
